Lambs, Chicks and Eggs, OH My!

ree

The children at several day care centers this past week thought that the cute little lamb I brought was a goat. Nope! This was a one-month old 'Doll Face' breed lamb.

The kids, who had never seen a lamb before were eager to touch it and feel it's fluffy wool.

I also brought in some baby chicks! The peep-peep of the animals made the children laugh with excitement!

After reading a story of a little boy's egg farm, we talked about how important the poultry industry is to Iowa's economy as well as the number of chickens raised for eggs and meat production across the United States.

Iowa is the nation's leading egg producer! Iowa is also the nation's leader in egg processing.

To process the eggs means to use them in other foods, such as pancake mixes, cake batters, and liquid egg mix. These eggs are referred to as, 'crackers'.

Other eggs are placed in cartons for the consumers to purchase!
