Spring Is Here!

When I think of spring, I think of flowers coming up tractors in the fields, Easter weekend with family, and of course, baby animals! Miss Melanie, a 5-day old calf brought spring to A to Z Daycare in Waterloo and Learn & Play in Evansdale.

Gasps and screams of glee were shouted throughout the classrooms as the black and white 80-pound calf walked into the classroom!

As part of the Ag in the Classroom program, I partnered with Donita Schmitz, former Black Hawk County Farm Bureau member to bring baby animals to the day care centers.

Along with the calf from Blough Dairy, the children were read a story about Milk Production and the process from cow to carton. We talked about the different types of milk, as well as products that come from cows, such as cheese, butter and ice cream!

They also had the opportunity to try different types of yogurts!

This is a month-long program, so stay tuned to see what comes to the centers next week!
